strictosidine

Strictosidine is the general precursor in the biosynthesis of indole alkaloids. It is in plants formed by the condensation of tryptamine with the iridoid secologanin, in a reaction catalysed by the enzyme strictosidine synthase (STR).
This compound can be of great value for studies on the biosynthesis of indole alkaloids.
In the past, a batch of very high purity was prepared, using purified STR from Cinchona cell cultures. Phytoconsult is now investigating whether it it commercially feasible to restart this work on strictosidine semi-synthesis. At present there is no other commercial source known for this compound.
